How deep is the sea

WALT:think critically when looking at information in different texts.

So my group was reading how deep is the sea, then after we had read the text our teacher sent us off to finish our reading activities but the one activity that she wanted us to finsh and blog was the infographic. If you don't know what a infographic is it has pictures, diagrams and more. What I enjoyed about that were the facts because they really were interesting and at the end of the text it left a question. How deep is the sea? Something that was hard was thinking of what other facts am i going to put in. facts to put down into my infographic

Popping bags

Popping bags

WALT: make a fair test and find out a really good project to work on for your fair test/science.

So for science we had to work in buddies and decided a topic or project we are going to test. SO my buddie was dion and we didn't have a subject until our teacher showed us this book and we saw something that was interesting, it was popping bags. What we had to do to make the bag pop was to get two different sizes of bags, small and large what we did with these bags was fill the large bag with three big tables spoons into the bag and let all the air out of it, for the small size bag we had to fill the bag up until you could just close it. Then once we did that we put the small size bag into the large bag and we closed the bag up, then dion punched the bag so then the small bag would pop. Then the co2 would fill the big bag too much that it will set of a bomb.

Before we started anything we had to fill out a doc that had all of the fair test information e.g what are we going to keep fair, so then we finished the doc and we started our project. Some of our test didn't work because we didn't put enough vinegar in the small bag, but when it did work it made a big loud noise. What was difficult for this task was planning, because if it will fit or not and what to put on the boards. But after all of that hard work we are proud.

My Mihi

WALT: find and summarise information by identifying key words and main ideas.
- make connections between different texts.
- use evidence(words, phrases and illustrations.) from the text to justify my thinking.
- make a judgement after evaluating information from a range of text.
- use key words to work out what the hidden meaning is.

So this week is moari language week and our class thought that it would be a good idea to make a mihi with game fruit. So we went off and started to create our mihi and some of us in the class have finished. If you don't know what a mihi is I will tell you, a mihi tells all about you like your mountain, river, waka, marea and more, you will know once you have seen my mihi.

This was kinda hard for me because I have not made a mihi in years so that was a struggle. But I made my mihi and now I am very proud of it. Some things that I didn't know was my hapu that was hard because my dad never told me about the old days like in samoa. If you don't like speaking to people in person then make a mihi because they will understand all about you. Hope you injoy my mihi.

A fun infographic

WALT: Think critically when looking at information in different texts.

In my group which is called venus we are reading how is wind made, then we finished the story and then we had to do our activites like normally but then there was one activite that we had to do and that was a infographic, a infographic is something with all the things that show you or tell you more about what we have read. I finished mine and it took maybe 2 days but after all the hard work that I have done, I am very proud of myself.

When I was reading the story I was amazed about all the things that have to be done just to make wind and all the different types of breezes, like land breeze and sea breeze. I was learning more and more as we were going from paragraph to paragraph, it was really fun to learn about wind and do the activities as well. My favorite part about this journey was the infographic because of all the information that I have taken from the text and put it into my own words for this activity.

Persuasive writing

WALT: persuade people on a topic of your choice e.g you want to persuade mum to give you a pay raise.

Why we should play rugby at school

Share - We could share our moves with the kids and maybe your own.

- So if kids are bored they could play rugby on the field.

- So we can teach them how to play rugby properly.

Learn - We can teach them where to tackle and how to tackle.

-We can show them how to defend their try line or how to defend with a line.

Stress relief - So they can let their anger out on a tackle bag.

-They could be angry but when they get on the field and play for the whole game it will tirer them out and they will be happy but exhausted.

-They could be afraid of rugby but trust me once they play the game more often they will get confident and they will want to play rugby games forever.

Why we shouldn’t play rugby at school I am here to explain why we don’t need to play league/rugby to show that our school is strong.

Reason 1 - Because people will get hurt or break something in their body, there was a man who played rugby and he was paralysed from being in a scrum.

 - In schools the principal banned tackling for the kids safety because he doesn't want the kids injuring themselves.

 - I say that rugby is more dangerous than soccer because of all of the contact that is made in the tackles.

Reason 2 - We can explain to them why we should ban rugby at school.

 - Also we can tell them stories about people who have been injured so they will know why we should not play rugby at school.

 - We could show them videos and pictures so they can know why we don’t play rugby.

Reason 3 - so if the kids are feeling really scared of rugby then we could help them get out of the sport and play something else than rugby/league.

 - We could release all the pressure of them because they are not playing the sport.

 - We could explain to them why the sport is too dangerous for them and they will walk out of the sport and play something else because there are many sports that you could play.

I hope this will help you get out of rugby/league and play a different sport like soccer, hokey, baseball, netball, basketball and more. I hope you can make a choice than rugby/league, maybe in the future you could be a star in any sport.

In my writing my topic was why we should play rugby at school and we had to give three reasons in 1 paragragh and I had three paragraghs. It was hard to give good reasons to persuade the reader. Then after I finished my first topic I flipped it and wrote why we shouldn't play rugby at school. That was getting easier but harder at the same time, so I did my research and I found interesting facts and I wrote those ideas in my writing. It was hard but at least I fnshed the work and never gave up.

Why my school should have a canteen

WALT: write shorter persuasive post by making a claim and backing it up with reasons. I can plan for a longer persuasive post by identifying the topic, audience and genre. I can research my topic by a question, searching for sources, indentifying information and paragraphsing the facts.

So in class we had to make a persuaive piece of writing and we had to make a topic up and my topic was we should have a canteen. I wrote about this topic because I just thought that we could use a canteen because it could be helpful for me and the school. It was kinda hard because I had to find the facts and try and put the facts into my own words, it was kinda of a work out for my brain because of the ideas that were popping out of my head and onto my screen. I was really close from giving up but I didn't and so I made this piece of writing.

We should have a canteen

I believe this school should have a canteen because if kids are hungry or need something, there will be a canteen just sitting there waiting for them.

But the question is where are we going to put the canteen? I say we should put it next to the staff room or maybe not the staff room maybe on the platform next to the hall, so if the teachers are hungry and they forget to bring their lunch, then they can just take a few steps and bam they are there getting themselves a coffee or a snack or to see how the students are going with their new job at the canteen!

If the kids can’t bring money to school then we will do something for the kids to buy something, for example this kid from this school could do very well and if he was lucky enough he could get a special token, the token is to buy stuff like food or drinks or even something healthy for snack break, but adults can use their money because they are allowed. If we can’t find adult workers then we can ask kids if they would like to volunteer to work for the canteen.

The things that will be put into the canteen will be like an even amount of treat food and drinks but also lots of healthy things like drinks and food so then the kids can stay healthy and strong and also the teachers. The drinks could be anything like a healthy drink or a little bit of a sugar drink or a coffee, the coffee can be anything you want it to be like black or white latte and more, we want the teachers happy and we know they love their coffee!

We need healthy things in our canteen because in New Zealand kids are eating too much junk food and it is making kids build up skin. We need to stay healthy so we can live longer and eat healthier throughout your whole life.

Descritive writing

WALT:
- Use paragraphas to ink similar ideas together
- Write in structure, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text
- use linking words pharases to link paragraphs for effects

In class we had to descripe a man who was sitting in a dark room. So we had to use the five sences to make a paragraph. We drafted before we wrote. When I was writing this text it was really hard because you had to describe the man by using the five sences.

As the man was sitting in a cold damp room the only thing he could see was darkness when he looked out the window he saw people having a great time that was when he started to cry, so he closed his eyes and he saw nothing and that was the reason he was crying because he has nothing to care about. He kept his eyelids shut until he fell asleep.

Once he awoke he started to remember his past why he is here in this room. It was 1999 he was in prison for 4 years until he broke out but he forgot something of course his mates he would never leave them behind, well he did but only for 3 years. The reason why is because he was making a master plan an undercover cop trying to get his mates out of prison
